Easter Monday

Easter Monday is the only day of the French calendar that is a public holiday just because. Nothing special happens that day. Easter being the most important Christian celebration since the 11th century as it marks Jesus resurrection, the whole week following that day used to be off with a church service every day.

Napoleon Bonaparte in agreement with the Pope decided to reduce that week to a single day off in 1801, with no church service involved.
